Braised Wild Boar

Cooking wild boar might sound intimidating. Perhaps you don’t see it very often, or have never seen, at your local grocery store. In fact, this past weekend was the first time I remember seeing it at our local Wegmans. We had to try it.

Wild boar is lean, so you have to be mindful of how you cook it. We kept ours moist with a blended red wine that really added a savory element to this otherwise sweet and nutty meat. Cooking wild boar was certainly an experiment, but we think it came out well and we hope you will try it!

Homemade Ketchup

Lately we’ve been experimenting with making our own condiments at home and we’re happy to share with you our recipe for homemade ketchup.  Whether you call it ketchup, catsup (South-Eastern US), tomato sauce (Australia/New Zealand), or red sauce (Whales/Scotland), we can agree that this condiment is fairly ubiquitous and a worthwhile thing to keep in the refrigerator.

This is a straight-forward recipe that takes about 30 minutes start to finish; the longest part of the recipe is waiting for it to cool in order to dip in your sweet potato fries or use it as the base for our amazing barbecue sauce.  We know you’ll love it.

Tomato Soup

One of the things we love, but haven’t had in a long time, is tomato soup.  We’ve made tomato basil soup a few times in the past, and it’s been tasty.  But this time, we wanted to spice things up a little bit.  Especially with the winter weather we have been having, it’s nice to have a flavorful and rich bowl of tomato soup to welcome you after walking home from work.

This soup is not your traditional tomato soup, and we think you’ll appreciate the subtle differences.  It is great accompanied with a salad, or as an appetizer before a larger entrée.  Let us know what you think of this tasty tomato soup!

Crab-Stuffed Salmon

When thinking up new salmon recipes, we look for inspiration every where, even the local Costco. Costco sells crab-stuffed salmon year-round.  Growing up, my parents would buy it on rare occasions, and it was always delicious.  Heather and I often pick up salmon from Costco, but we’ve never bought the crab-stuffed salmon because we weren’t thrilled by the ingredient list.

Thankfully, we recently perfected our homemade mayonnaise recipe. It works as an amazing binder for recipes just like this one.  We thoroughly recommend this salmon, as it’s a delicious dish that is great for a quiet night at home or for entertaining family and friends.  With very little preparation, you’ll be enjoying this for dinner and wow’ing everyone in no time.

21DSD in 2014: Week 3

We’ve made it to the third and final week of our 21 Day Sugar Detox (21DSD).  It’s been refreshing to return to real food, and I’m feeling better than I have in weeks.  If you’re also on the detox with us this go around, we hope you’re having a similar experience.  Here are some of the things we are cooking this week.
